Fire Smoke Door Do Not Obstruct – Fire Door Do Not Obstruct signs are used to indicate specific doors to be used in the event of an emergency situation. Fire signs indicate the location of, or direction to, fire fighting facilities or equipment like fire hoses, extinguishers, fire blankets, fire equipment, or gear.

FIRE SMOKE DOOR, DO NOT OBSTRUCT

These signs are required on every door leading into a fire stair from the inside of the building.

These signs are required on one face of the door only, the approach side of the door. A smoke door of one or two leaves satisfies if it is constructed as follows:

(a) The leaves are side-hung and swing –

(i) in the direction of egress; or

(ii) in both directions.
