BEWARE OF VEHICLES — the sign for a place where people on foot and vehicles share ground: a car park entry, a loading dock, a site haul route, a warehouse yard where forklifts operate.
It is a warning sign in the AS 1319 sense, black on yellow, marking a hazard that could cause injury. The pairing is deliberate and worth preserving — red and black is reserved for danger, where the consequence of ignoring the instruction is death or serious injury. A site that uses danger headers for everything trains its people to read none of them.
Where this one earns its place is the boundary between a pedestrian route and a vehicle route. That boundary is obvious to the person who works there every day and invisible to a visitor, a delivery driver or a subcontractor on their first morning.
Four sizes from 300 x 225mm up to 900 x 600mm landscape. Five materials: sticker and decal from $7.50, corflute for temporary site use, polypropylene and composite ACM white for permanent fixing, and 1.6mm aluminium to $272.16 for post mounting. Size it for the distance a driver reads it from, not for the wall it goes on.
